history

Albanian Mobile Communications Sh.a. (AMC) was the first mobile operator in Albania and was founded as a public limited company on November 22, 1995. When business began in May 1996, all shares in the company were owned by the state. Privatization followed in 2000. The Albanian arm of the Greek mobile operator Cosmote - a subsidiary of the Hellenic Telecommunications Organization SA (OTE) - took over a majority of 85% of the company's shares for around EUR 66.5 million . The first branches in the country opened two years later.

In 2005 the corporate identity was taken over by Cosmote. The name, abbreviated to amc , was retained. According to the company, the number of employees rose to 516 by 2007, with sales of around € 177.5 million in the same year. In February 2009 the Albanian state sold a further 12.6% of the company to Cosmote Mobile Telecommunications SA for 48.2 million euros . Deutsche Telekom AG had recently acquired a stake in its Greek parent company, the telecommunications company OTE .

By 2011 the number of branches rose to over 100. AMC received a 4G license and was the first provider in Albania to offer offers based on this technology. In April 2015, AMC reached over two million customers, corresponding to a market share of around 41%, with coverage of 91% of the Albanian territory. The number of branches had grown to 150 during the same period.

After Deutsche Telekom had expanded its stake in OTE and thus also in Cosmote and AMC over the years , AMC was renamed Telekom Albania on July 23, 2015 . The previously green logo has been replaced by the Telekom logo of the German parent company in magenta . In the same year Telekom Albania received the license to offer services in the upcoming 4G standard.

In 2018, the Telekom Group owns 99.79% of the company shares that are held by OTE . According to the company, it has a market share of around 37.4 percent with 1.84 million customers.
