Cascade de Charabotte

The Albarine is a river in France that runs in the Ain department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region . It rises in the southern Jura , in the municipality of Brénod on a karst plateau and initially drains south. In Nantuy in the municipality of Hauteville-Lompnes the Albarine falls over the majestic waterfall Cascade de Charabotte in a canyon-like valley, swivels in several loops towards the west and ends after a total of 59 kilometers in the municipality of Châtillon-la-Pallud as a left tributary of the Ain . On its way the Albarine crosses the Bugey landscape .

Hydrology

The water flow of the Albarine is strongly dependent on the seasons and the amount of precipitation. In summer and in dry periods the water repeatedly seeps into the karst subsoil, sometimes the river disappears completely from the surface.
