Albert Grauer

Albert Grauer (also Grawer ; born April 3, 1575 in Mesekow near Perleberg ; † November 30, 1617 in Weimar ) was a German teacher and Lutheran theologian.

Life

Grauer was born the son of the preacher Joachim (Johann) Grauer, who fled from Hungary, and his wife Anna, the daughter of the pastor of Mesekow. He attended school in Perleberg and Seehausen . In 1589 he enrolled at the University of Rostock , moved to the University of Frankfurt (Oder) in 1591 and lastly on June 14 of the same year to the University of Wittenberg . In Wittenberg he acquired the academic degree of a master’s degree on September 17, 1594, began to give lectures and then, on the recommendation of Aegidius Hunnius the Elder, went to Neere near Käsmark in the Zips as rector in 1595 .

After working in Kosice in 1597 , he had to flee from the approaching Turks. He returned to Germany and in 1599 went back to Wittenberg, from where he was appointed rector to Eisleben . In 1604 he disputed with the Zerbst Reformed superintendent Wolfgang Amling at Schochwitz Castle . Devoting himself more profoundly to theology, he became dean general in Mansfeld and assessor of the consistory in Eisleben in 1607 . In 1609 he received his doctorate in theology at the Jena Academy, and in 1611 he became a professor of theology there. Grauer also took part in the organizational tasks of the Salana and was rector of the Alma Mater in the summer semester of 1612 and in the winter semester of 1615 .

After he excelled in this office, he was appointed General Superintendent of Weimar in 1616 , which position he held until his death. He was revered by his followers as a protective shield and champion for Lutheranism, who in his literary treatises primarily expressed himself against the Reformed Church and was an advocate of the formula of concord .

Grauer was married in 1595 to Anna Nicolai (* December 1581 in Schneeberg, † January 3, 1639 in Jena), the daughter of the pastor in Schneeberg Johannes Nicolai and his wife Magdalene Wacksenring. The marriage remained childless.
