Albert Maier (art dealer)

Albert Maier (born November 13, 1948 ) is a German art and antiques dealer . He is a regular guest on programs on German television as an expert .

Life

Maier studied law in Munich . His interest in the antique trade was aroused during this time when he took over eight old prison doors in Aalen , which he restored and sold in Munich. During an internship with a bailiff in Munich, he noticed that wall clocks and antique furniture that some students bought and sold at flea markets were occasionally seized . Inspired in this way, after his first state examination in the mid-1970s, he began trading full-time with art and antiques. The autodidact has been running an antique shop in Ellwangen since 1976 , with which he moved to Rainau-Schwabsberg in 2018 .

His discoveries as an expert in antiques include a plate from the service of Tsar Nicholas II , which sold for 72,000 euros at a later auction, and a picture by the Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky .

Maier gained notoriety as an expert in assessing antiques in the art or kitsch category ? of the television consumer magazine Kaffee oder Tee as well as in the television series really antique ?! and ZDF television garden . Since 2013 he has been part of the team of experts in the Bares for Rares series on ZDF. Maier is married, has a grown son and lives in Ellwangen.
