Albert Rust (born October 10, 1953 in Mulhouse ) is a former French football goalkeeper and football coach.

Player career

Rust began his career at FC Sochaux , where he stayed for a total of 15 years. In 1987 he moved to HSC Montpellier , where he won the French Cup in 1990. That year he also said goodbye to Montpellier and went to Monaco for AS Monaco , where he played for another year before ending his career with his second triumph in the French Cup.

Internationally he played once for France. He took part as a substitute goalkeeper in the 1984 European Football Championship in his own country, where France became European champions. Later he took part in the Soccer World Cup in Mexico in 1986 , where he was in goal in the game for third place against Belgium (4: 2 n. V.).

He also won the gold medal with the French selection at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles .

Coaching career

After his active career, Rust became a coach. He began his coaching career at Les Crés, a small French club. In 1993 he went to AS Beauvais , where he was assistant coach for a year. In 1994 he followed Henri Michel , who wanted Rust to be his assistant coach, to Al-Nasr in Saudi Arabia . At Al-Nasr he was able to win the national championship as an assistant coach. In 1995 he returned to France and trained Chamois Niort for four years. He then coached Clermont Foot for a year and again followed the call of Henri Michel and became assistant coach of the national team of Tunisia. He took part in the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea as an assistant coach. Tunisia dropped out in the preliminary round. He then coached the Tunisian club Stade Tunisien for half a year. In 2002 he returned to France and coached FC Sète , Stade Brest and US Créteil until 2006 .
