Bernard Genghini (born January 18, 1958 in Soultz-Haut-Rhin ) is a former French football player and football coach .

Stations as a player

From 1976 to 1982, the goal- scoring midfielder, who grew up with Guebwiller in Upper Alsace , played for FC Sochaux -Montbéliard and then moved to AS Saint-Étienne for one season . From 1983 to 1986 he played for AS Monaco . This was followed by a brief guest appearance at Servette Geneva in 1986 and then for two years at Olympique Marseille . At the end of his career he played for Girondins Bordeaux (1988/89).

Success in the club

With the teams from Sochaux (1980), Monaco (1984) and Marseille (1987) he won the runner-up in the French league . With the Monegasque he also won the French Cup in 1985 and played four European Cup games (two each in the European Cup Winners' Cup and two in the UEFA Cup ), with three Genghini goals not preventing AS from being eliminated in the first round. In 1979/80 (6th with 15 hits), 1983/84 (4th/18 hits), 1984/85 (6th/15) and 1985/86 (10th/13) he also appeared in a front place in the French top scorer list.

The national player

From February 1980 to September 1986 he played quite successfully for the French national football team . He had 27 appearances (13 for Sochaux, 4 for Saint-Étienne, 9 for Monaco, 1 for Geneva) and scored 6 goals. He was also a member of the teams that took part in the respective soccer world championships in 1982 (5 games) and 1986 (1 game) and which became European champions in 1984 (2 games).

After his playing career ended, he worked as a coach at Mulhouse FC from 1992 to 1995 .
