Albert Schmidt (painter)

Albert Schmidt (born June 6, 1942 in Engi GL ) is a Swiss mountaineer and painter .

Life

Albert Schmidt grew up in Engi in the canton of Glarus , he trained as a baker and pastry chef. At the schools for design in Zurich and Basel , he acquired the teaching diploma for visual and manual design. He was a teacher of visual design and art history at the Basel Center for Education and at the Basel-Stadt Orientation School.

As a visual artist, he created an extensive body of work that revolves around the themes of mountains and nature, including acrylic and watercolor paintings, prints, etchings, copper engravings, woodcuts, stone sculptures and slate installations. He is a member of the Swiss Mountain Painters Guild .

He also focuses on nature, animals and mountains as a photographer, picture and text author of book and press articles, speaker and a work on Freiberg Kärpf in the canton of Glarus . In 2010 he opened the Bilderberg gallery in Engi.

As an alpinist, in addition to climbing 1,600 peaks, he managed to make a few first ski runs and first winter ascents. He is also an experienced paraglider pilot .
