New Glarus is a municipality (with the status " Village ") in Green County in the US -amerikanischen State Wisconsin . In 2010 , New Glarus had 2172 inhabitants.
The municipality was named after the Swiss municipality of Glarus and was founded in 1845 by 150 immigrants from Glarus. It is also called "New Glaris", according to the Glarus dialect. The place attracts many tourists every year. The community is also known for its restaurants with Swiss specialties.

The Wisconsin State Highways 69 runs in a north-south direction as the main road through the center of New Glarus and meets the eastern end point of the Wisconsin State Highway 39 at its confluence . All other roads are subordinate country roads, some unpaved roads and inner-city connecting roads.
The northern end of the Sugar River State Trail is located in New Glarus , a rail trail for hikers and cyclists that follows the route of a former railway line . In winter, the hiking trail can also be used with snowmobiles.
