The airport Madison-Dane County (officially: Dane County Regional Airport , formerly also: Truax Field ) ( IATA airport code : MSN , ICAO code : KMSN ) is the airport of Madison , the capital of the US - the State of Wisconsin . The continuously open airport, owned by Dane County, is the major air traffic hub in the Madison metropolitan area .

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) classifies the airport, which is part of the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems, as a small hub primary commercial service airport based on the number of 728,075 departing passengers .

On the grounds of the airport there is a base for the Army and Air National Guard of Wisconsin.

Location and transport links

Johnson Street, Pennsylvania Avenue, Packers Avenue and International Lane connect the airport to downtown Madison, eight kilometers southwest.

Furnishing

The airport has three runways, each with a concrete surface. There is a passenger terminal with 13 passenger boarding bridges and a baggage handling system with several output points. Several rental car companies have bases in the reception building.

Airplanes and aircraft movements

A total of 141 aircraft are stationed at the airport . 71 of these are single-engine and 15 multi-engine propeller planes, 18 jet jets and 1 helicopter. There are also 36 military aircraft stationed.

Of the 228 flight movements per day, 16 percent can be assigned to scheduled and charter traffic , 55 percent to general aviation and 22 percent to air taxi traffic. There are also around seven percent military aircraft movements.
