Verona is located in the south-central part of Wisconsin, in the south-western suburb of its capital, Madison . The intersection of the three states of Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois is located on the Mississippi and lies 126 km to the west-southwest.

A rail trail for hikers and cyclists runs parallel to the US 18 / US 151 road through the city on the route of a former railway line of the Chicago and North Western Railway with the Military Ridge State Trail . In winter, the hiking trail can also be used with snowmobiles.

In 1847 the Town of Verona was formed and named after Verona in the state of New York . In 1921, today's city was spun off from the town as the Village of Verona and incorporated as an independent municipality. In 1978 the place was raised to the City of Verona .
