McFarland is located in south-central Wisconsin, in the southern suburbs of its capital, Madison . The place is located on the east bank of Lake Waubesa and on the Yahara River , a tributary of the Rock River, which flows into the Mississippi in the neighboring state of Illinois . The intersection of the three states of Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois is located on the Mississippi and is 154 km to the west-southwest.
