The Leglerhütte is located at 2273  m above sea level. M. Höhe in the Glarus Alps at the foot of the Kärpf massif in the canton of Glarus . It is open all day in summer and on weekends in winter and is an important base for tours in Freiberg Kärpf , the oldest game reserve in Switzerland. In winter the hut is an excellent base for many ski tours.

history

The Leglerhütte was donated in 1901 by Captain Mathias Legler, a member of a wealthy family of textile manufacturers in Diesbach , and after completion in 1908 it was given to the Tödi section of the Swiss Alpine Club . The hut differed from other huts in its elaborate construction with a small cross gable . The deed of gift reserved a room exclusively for the Legler family. It was expanded for the first time in 1949 when the winter rooms, a new kitchen, additional rooms and a keeper's room were added. A cubic extension by aschmann ruegge architekten ag , which emerged from a competition and was built in 2007, has expanded its capacity to 54 beds. It was constructed with local building materials, such as slate floors made of Engi , fiber cement wall cladding and local timber. In addition, the hut's energy supply and sanitation were brought up to date:

  • A photovoltaic system on the roof and the SAC's first block-type thermal power station, heated with rapeseed oil, provide electrical energy and hot service water.
  • Drying faeces makes odorless use of waterless toilet facilities possible.
