Albert Wolf (actor)

Albert Wolf (born May 14, 1862 in Kassel , † August 8, 1938 in Munich ) was a German actor, singer, director and theater director.

Life

Albert Wolf was the son of a tax officer. He received his artistic training from Gustav Thies in Kassel. In 1883 he made his debut at the Elysium Theater in Szczecin . From there he went to the United Theaters of Glatz - Glogau - Sprottau . From 1884 to 1887 he was engaged at the court theater in Oldenburg and from 1887 to 1889 in Dessau .

Theater in Schwerin

In 1889 he came to the court theater in Schwerin , where he worked as an actor and director until 1910, and as chief director from 1899. This was his most productive time. In Schwerin he switched from the youthful hero to the character subject . Under his direction, the German premiere of August Strindberg's Gustav Vasa took place here on October 15, 1900 . The festivals on court occasions that he wrote and staged were an integral part of the court culture of the royal seat of the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin . When he left the stage in 1910, he was honored with the title of director .

From 1911 to 1919 he was director of the Elbing City Theater .

Then he was an actor and theater director in St. Gallen until 1924 . He spent the last years of his life in Tutzing .

He was married to the singer Minnie Haugs.
