Albert von Blumenthal

Karl Albert Graf von Blumenthal (born April 13, 1797 in Neudeck , † August 30, 1860 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian lieutenant general , canon of Halberstadt and knight of honor of the Order of St. John .

Life

origin

Albert was a son of Heinrich von Blumenthal (1765–1830) and his wife Friederike, born von Plessen (1769–1848) from the house of Kleiniele . His father was the lord of Neudeck, Adamsdorf and Liepen as well as the Prussian chamberlain and cathedral chapter of Magdeburg.

Military career

During the Wars of Liberation, Blumenthal joined the 1st Guards Regiment on foot in the Prussian Army on May 4, 1814 and was promoted to captain and company commander by the end of September 1834 . On April 18, 1840 he was given command of the Leibcompanie. He was promoted to major on March 22, 1843 , aggregated to the regiment and on June 1, 1843 commander of the combined Guard-Reserve Battalion. On March 22, 1845 Blumenthal was assigned to the 1st Guard Regiment and on April 2, 1846 appointed commander of the 1st Battalion. In the same capacity he was active in the fusilier battalion from January 2, 1849, before he was commanded to serve King Friedrich Wilhelm IV on June 22, 1850 . In this position he rose to lieutenant colonel at the end of September 1850 and was appointed wing adjutant to the king on February 7, 1851 . On March 6, 1851, Blumenthal received the Order of the Iron Crown, Second Class, and on April 19, 1851, the Commander's Cross, Second Class, of the Duke of Saxony-Ernestine House Order . On November 4, 1851, he returned to the 1st Guards Regiment on foot as a commander, where he was promoted to colonel on December 2, 1851 . On January 1, 1853, he was awarded the Commander's Cross of the Leopold Order .

On August 5, 1856, Blumenthal became commander of the 31st Infantry Brigade and leader of the garrison of the federal fortresses . In mid-October 1856 he was promoted to major general and on January 1, 1858 he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves. Under awarding of the character as a Lieutenant General Blumenthal was on March 20, 1859 Pension for disposition made. He died in Potsdam on August 30, 1860.

family

Blumenthal married Mathilde von Schlegel, daughter of Colonel von Schlegel, on November 14, 1825. The daughter Mathilde (1837-1891) emerged from the marriage and married Ludwig von Wartensleben (1831-1926) in Karow in 1856 .
