Alberto Mario González (born August 21, 1941 in Buenos Aires ) is a former Argentine soccer player who took part in the 1962 and 1966 World Cup with the national team of his home country .
Career
Club career
Alberto Mario González played the first year of his professional football career at Club Atlético Atlanta , a smaller club from the Argentine capital Buenos Aires . After 49 games and seven hits, the Boca Juniors signed him in 1962 . In the team around Argentine football greats of the time such as Antonio Rattín , Carmelo Simeone or José Sanfilippo , González was soon able to prevail and became an integral part of the Boca team, which reached the final of the Copa Libertadores in 1963 , but failed there at Santos for Pelé . Mario Alberto González was used in both finals, but he did not succeed in scoring. Otherwise, the early 1960s were very successful for the Boca Juniors. In 1962, 1964 and 1965 the Argentine soccer championship could be won three times. After 1965 you had to wait until 1969 for another championship title. At this point Alberto Mario González was no longer playing in La Boca . He moved to CA Banfield before the 1969 season, where he played football for a year, after fifteen league games and seven goals, leaving Argentina and joining Unión Española from Chile . After a brief interlude in Chile's top division, the Primera División , he returned to his home country in 1971 and was active for a short time for Club Atlético Platense before ending his active career at the age of thirty.
National team
Between 1962 and 1967 Alberto Mario González was used a total of nineteen times in the Argentine national soccer team . He didn't score a goal. From Argentina coach Juan Carlos Lorenzo , he was twice appointed to the squad for a soccer World Cup. In 1962 in Chile he came to the preliminary round from the Argentine team to a use, in the goalless draw against Hungary in Rancagua , he acted in the attack of Argentina, but could not prevent the elimination due to the game not won. Four years later at the World Cup in England , Argentina's team with González as a regular player survived the group phase and only failed in the quarter-finals against the hosts and eventual world champions from England. Alberto Mario González was used in all four games at the 1966 world tournament, but, as in his entire national team career, never scored a single goal. In the first year after the 1966 World Cup, González's time in the national team ended.
