Albin Cardinal Dunajewski (born March 1, 1817 in Stanislau , Galicia , † June 18, 1894 in Cracow ) was Prince-Bishop of Cracow and Cardinal of the Roman Church .

Life

As a young student, Dunajewski became a member of the “Polish Democrats” and was arrested. He was suspected of conspiracy and sentenced to death in 1841. The sentence was converted to eight years in prison in 1845 and was last reduced, so that he was released in 1848. Dunajewski was ordained a priest on July 28, 1861 .

On May 15, 1879 he was appointed bishop of Krakow. He received his episcopal consecration on June 18, 1879, the Apostolic Nuncio in Austria Lodovico Jacobini ; Co- consecrators were Anton Josef Gruscha , Archbishop of Vienna , and Jan Stupnicki , Ukrainian Greek Catholic Bishop of Przemyśl . Pope Leo XIII. created him on June 23, 1890 cardinal and elevated him to cardinal priest with the titular church Santi Vitale, Valeria, Gervasio e Protasio .

In the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria , as Bishop of Kraków, he had a virile vote in the Galician Parliament . From 1889 Dunajewski was also a member of the Austrian manor house .
