Alex Farinelli (born December 16, 1981 in Comano TI , resident in Bellinzona ) is a Swiss politician ( FDP ) and has been a member of the National Council for the canton of Ticino since 2019 .

Life

Alex Farinelli holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the Universities of Zurich and Lugano and a master's degree in economics and international politics. His professional career began in 2009 at Corner Bank , where he took care of internal organization; from 2010 he worked as canton secretary of the Ticino FDP. Since June 2015 he has been working for the Ticino section of the Swiss Association of Master Builders, of which he has been Deputy Director since 2017. He has also been the mayor of Comano since 2016.

Farinelli cites swimming, orienteering, tennis and chess as hobbies.

Political career

In 2004, Farinelli was first elected to Comano City Council at the age of 22 and re-elected in 2008 and 2012. In 2013 he was elected chairman of the city council. In 2008 he joined the Young Liberals in the canton of Ticino and became their president in 2010. He has chaired the Comano FDP section since 2011, and acts as a delegate of the Ticino FDP at national level. In 2015 he was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Ticino and confirmed again in 2019.

With 30,036 votes, Farinelli was elected to the National Council in the first round of the Swiss parliamentary elections in 2019 as the Ticino National Councilor with the most votes; he was sworn in on December 2, 2019.
