Alexander Ivanovich Glebov ( Russian Александр Иванович Глебов * August 26 . Jul / 6. September  1722 greg. , † June 2 jul. / 13. June  1790 greg. At the Khodynka ) was a Russian officer, civil servant and politician .

Life

Glebow came from an old noble family . He graduated from the Cadet Corps and was a fifteen year old Sergeant in Butyrskaya - Infantry Regiment . In the Russo-Austrian Turkish War (1736-1739) he took part under General Field Marshal Burkhard Christoph von Münnich in 1737 in the assault on the Ottoman fortress Ochakiv . In August 1739 he fought as Porutschik in the battle of Stavutschany near Chotyn and was seriously wounded.

In 1849 Glebow switched to civil service as a college assessor (8th grade ). In 1754 he became senior secretary of the Senate through protection of the favorite of the Empress Elisabeth Count Pyotr Ivanovich Shuvalov . In 1756 Glebow was appointed chief procurator of the Senate. In 1758 he was awarded the Order of St. Anne 1st Class. In 1760 he was appointed General War Commissioner.

After Peter III took office became Glebow, who was a friend of Peter III. was, at once General Procuror of the Senate. He did not lead this office as carefully as his predecessor Jakow Petrowitsch Schachowskoi and neglected the supply of the troops in the war against Prussia . He was given the task of preparing new decrees . In particular, he was one of the authors of the manifestos published in February 1761 on the freedoms of the Russian nobility and on the dissolution of the Secret Chancellery. His position at court was soon shaken, to which his dubious business, particularly in connection with the wine tax lease in Irkutsk, contributed. After an investigation, he lost the office of General Procurator in February 1764 and the authorization to take on other offices. His successor was Alexander Alexejewitsch Vjasemski .

Nevertheless, Glebow remained General War Commissioner, and in 1773 he was even promoted to General en chef . In 1775 he became governor general of the governorates of Smolensk and Belgorod . In the following year, serious abuses and embezzlement in the main war commissioner were uncovered, which had happened during his leadership. Katharina appointed a special commission of inquiry, whereupon Glebow was called to St. Petersburg in June 1776 and dismissed from all his offices. His successor as General War Commissioner was Nikolai Dmitrijewitsch Durnowo . In the trial, Glebow was sentenced to removal from civil service and house arrest on his estates for violating duty. Catherine II approved the judgment in September 1784.

Glebow now lived on his property in Moscow on the Chodynka and on his country estate Vinogradowo near Moscow. He bought the village of Dubrowka in 1758 and then had the Winogradowo manor house built there in the classic style with a park. 1772–1777 he replaced the stone church from the 17th century with the new Church of Our Lady of Vladimir in the style of Russian classicism typical of the time of Catherine II. The architect was Vasily Iwanowitsch Baschenow or Matwei Fyodorowitsch Kazakow . Guests in Winogradowo were Gavriil Romanowitsch Derschavin , Nikolai Mikhailowitsch Karamsin and other representatives of the Russian Enlightenment .

Glebow was married three times and remained childless. His second wife was a cousin of Empress Elisabeth and died soon after they were married. Glebow bequeathed Winogradowo to the daughter of his third wife from her first marriage, Elisabeth Franz, who married Iwan Iwanowitsch Benckendorff , Alexander von Benckendorff's uncle . Glebow was buried in the Vinogradovo Church of Our Lady of Vladimir.
