Alexander Kölpin
Alexander Kölpin (born July 7, 1731 in Uetersen , Duchy of Holstein , † January 20, 1801 in Copenhagen ) was a German surgeon and professor in Denmark-Norway . He was the first director of the Royal Surgical Academy in Copenhagen.
Life
Kölpin 's father was the theologian Friedrich Christoph Kölpin , director of the school at Uetersen Monastery (from 1719 to 1748). The mother was Catharina Margaretha geb. Evers . His brother Joachim Kölpin later also became director of the monastery school. Kölpin attended this school under the rector and deacon Johann Christoph Wiese . He then completed an apprenticeship as a field clerk in Uetersen . In 1749 he went to Hamburg and in 1752 to Copenhagen, where he continued his medical education. In 1755 Kölpin took his final exam at the Theatrum Anatomico-Chirurgicum. From 1756 to 1762 he was regimental field clerk in Rendsburg . He then returned to Copenhagen and began the mandatory supplementary medical exams. He did not finish his doctoral thesis . With a grant from Krone Denmark , he went on a study trip to Hanover , Strasbourg and Paris .
After two years abroad, Kölpin was a surgeon at Frederiks Hospital from 1766 to 1776 . Court surgeon from 1768, in 1785 founding director of the Royal Surgical Academy in Copenhagen. After his departure (1794), he bequeathed his large medical library and money to the Academy in 1796. He donated 8,000 Reichstaler to his former school in his hometown. In his will he noted:
“With pleasure and a thankful heart to God, I often remember the good opportunity that I had in my youth, that I was educated in the Latin school in Uetersen and mostly taught in the sciences required for university by the then Mr. Rector Wiese . "
Kölpin 's nephew was the German-Danish doctor and author Friedrich Christoph Kölpin .
