Alexander Magnus von der Marwitz

Alexander Magnus von der Marwitz (born September 13, 1668 in Sellin , † March 1, 1726 in Trossin ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

He was a member of the Brandenburg noble family von der Marwitz . His parents were the Prussian major in the "von Strauss" regiment , who died in 1675 with Fehrbellin and heir to Sellin Hans Joachim von der Marwitz and his wife Dorothea Maria, born von Sydow († 1668 in childbirth ).

In 1683 Marwitz joined the Brandenburg Army and took part in the Great Turkish War from 1684 to 1686 . Then, in 1688, he was a lieutenant in the "Alt-Holstein" battalion and took part in the War of the Palatinate Succession in 1689/94 , before being promoted to captain in 1697 . From 1702 to 1713 he was again in the field against France in the War of the Spanish Succession , in 1704 he was promoted to major in the infantry regiment (No. 17) and in 1707 to lieutenant colonel. In 1714 Marwitz became the commander of the infantry regiment (No. 21) , was promoted to colonel in the same year and in 1719 was commander of the infantry regiment (No. 7) . Marwitz graduated from the infantry as major general in 1719.

Marwitz married Margarete Elisabeth von der Marwitz († 1713) in their first marriage in 1699. The couple had the following children:

  • Johann Christoph Hildebrand (* August 8, 1701; † November 7, 1785) ⚭ Countess Sophie Charlotte Elisabeth von Burghauß (* November 18, 1716; † April 19, 1787)
  • Charlotte Sophie (* September 18, 1702; † May 17, 1777) ⚭ 1724 Moritz von Pannwitz († 1730)
  • Alexander Ludwig (born October 12, 1704)
  • Beate Elisabeth (* October 4, 1710 - † February 28, 1769)

He went into a second marriage in 1716 with Emilie Sophie von der Marwitz (1687–1751), daughter of the Prussian Lieutenant General Kurt Hildebrand von der Marwitz .
