Live and act

Academic background

Seitz studied theology and medicine in Tübingen from 1488 to 1495 , where a few socially critical lecturers worked. Among the Tübingen theologians, shaped by professors such as Gabriel Biel , Konrad Summenhart , Johann von Staupitz or Paul Scriptoris , who was dismissed from his offices at the university and in the Franciscan convent in 1501 for heresy , a “pre-Reformation” school emerged that was critical of itself Dealt with undesirable developments in church and monasteries, state and economy and is said to have influenced Martin Luther significantly. At the same time as Seitz, Reinhard Gaisser also studied here , who later also supported the " poor Konrad " as Grüninger dean . After further study stays in Como and Padua , Seitz settled in Württemberg as a doctor and worked in Wildbad and Marbach am Neckar, among others . In 1507 he published a treatise on syphilis .

Ringleader of poor Konrad

Because of his significant involvement in the uprising of " Poor Conrad ", Seitz, who had also coordinated the "Marbach City Council" of the rebellious citizens in the lowlands, faced the death penalty in 1514. But Seitz was able to break away in time, first fled to Switzerland and later stayed in several southern German cities outside of Württemberg.

Years of wandering in exile

In exile, Seitz remained true to his revolutionary convictions: his political activities and his commitment to the Reformation repeatedly led to arguments with the superiors. This resulted in several lawsuits and bans.

From 1519 to 1521 Seitz worked as a city doctor in Munich . In the following years he published various medical treatises. Several stays in Basel and Strasbourg followed in the 1520s and early 30s . During this time Seitz met the former nun Margreth vom Grutt, whom he later married.
