Alexander Voigt (born April 13, 1978 in Cologne ) is a German soccer coach and former player . Most recently, he was the head coach of the first team at Wuppertaler SV on a voluntary basis.

Career

As a player

The full-back played for 1. FC Köln from the age of nine . In July 2005 he went to Roda Kerkrade with Huub Stevens , who was Voigt's coach at FC . At the end of December 2006, he moved to FC Carl Zeiss Jena for half a year .

From summer 2007 Voigt joined Borussia Mönchengladbach . In the first year he was the team's most consistent defender with 33 appearances, and he was promoted to the Bundesliga with Borussia. In the second year he lost his regular place and came in the first half of the 2008/09 season only to six missions. From January 2009 he was no longer part of the professional squad.

During the winter break of 2009, Voigt moved to SpVgg Greuther Fürth for free . He got a contract until June 30, 2010, but left the game association after six months. For the 2009/10 season he moved to FSV Frankfurt , where he signed a one-year contract. He scored his first goal for FSV on February 7, 2010 in a 1-1 draw against Alemannia Aachen .

For the 2010/11 season Voigt returned to FC Carl Zeiss Jena, where he signed a one-year contract with an option to extend for another year. In mid-March 2012, after a verbal argument with goalkeeping coach Tomislav Piplica, coach Petrik Sander released him from training and competitions.

For the 2012/13 season Voigt was signed by the regional division FC Viktoria Köln . He ended his active career in the summer of 2013.

He was promoted to the Bundesliga three times with 1. FC Köln and once with Borussia Mönchengladbach .

As a trainer

In January 2014 Voigt was hired as assistant coach at FC Viktoria Köln. Since the 2015/16 season he has been the assistant coach of the upper division Sportfreunde Siegen .

Voigt occupied his first head coach position from April 2016 to June 2017 at the Mittelrheinligisten TV Herkenrath , who had made it from the Kreisliga A to the Mittelrheinliga with five consecutive promotions in the past five seasons. Voigt remained unbeaten in his first ten games as head coach, his team achieved eight wins and two draws in the ten games with a goal difference of 26:10 goals and ended the season in fifth place in the final table.

After his engagement at Herkenrath ended, Voigt went to the Netherlands , where he spent the 2017/18 season as assistant to Sunday Oliseh and Cláudio Braga at Fortuna Sittard . As a runner-up in the Eerste Divisie , Fortuna was promoted to the Eredivisie .

In the summer of 2018, the German, who was no longer employed at Sittard, found a job with the Lower Rhine Upper League club SSVg Velbert . Since the team did not reach the targeted goal of regional league promotion as fifth in the table, Voigt's contract was not extended until the end of the season.

As the successor to interim coach Karsten Hutwelker , Voigt took over the regional league team of Wuppertaler SV in October 2019 . Due to the association's financial problems, he held the office on a voluntary basis until his resignation during the winter break.
