Alexander Vasilyevich Belyakov
Alexander Vasilyevich Belyakov ( Russian Александр Васильевич Беляков ; born December 9 . Jul / 21st December 1897 greg. In Bessubowo ( Moscow Oblast ); † 28. November 1982 in Moscow ) was a Soviet pilot .
Life
Belyakov joined the Red Army in 1919 and took part in the 25th Rifle Division under the command of Vasily Chapayev in the Russian Civil War. In 1921 he completed a course in photogrammetry and then taught at the local school. In 1930 he moved to the Zhukovsky Military Academy where he held a chair for navigation until 1935 .
From July 20 to 22, 1936, Belyakov, together with Valery Chkalov and Georgi Baidukov, made a non-stop flight over 9374 kilometers from Moscow over the Arctic Ocean to the island of Udd in the southern Sea of Okhotsk in the record aircraft ANT-25 . The aircraft was in the air for 56 hours and 20 minutes. For this achievement, Belyakov received the title Hero of the Soviet Union on July 24, 1936 . He made another record flight with the same aircraft and the same crew from June 18-20, 1937 from Moscow to Portland in the US state of Oregon . It covered 9130 km (as the crow flies 8504 km) in 63 hours and 25 minutes.
From 1936 to 1939 Belyakov held a leading position in the Remote Bombing Forces (DBA). In 1940 he moved to the Schukowski Academy as deputy chief for navigational training. During the Great Patriotic War , Belyakov was the head of several training centers for navigation. In 1945 he took part in the Berlin operation as a military man in the management level of an air army .
After the end of the war, Belyakov was promoted to head of faculty at the Academy of the WWS . In August 1960 he was transferred to the reserve as lieutenant general of the aviators.
In addition to the title “Hero of the Soviet Union”, Belyakov was awarded the Order of Lenin twice and the Order of the Red Banner three times . He wrote numerous treatises on navigation and was a doctor of geography.
