Alexander von Kanitz

Alexander Karl Richard Graf von Kanitz, on Saskoschin and Dommachau (born November 8, 1848 in Podangen , † February 14, 1940 in Saskoschin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Alexander came from the noble family of Kanitz . He was a son of Count Emil Carl Ferdinand von Kanitz (1807–1877) and his wife Charlotte, née von Sydow (1820–1868). The two politicians Hans and Georg were his brothers.

Kanitz joined the replacement battalion of the 1st Guards Regiment on foot of the Prussian Army on August 16, 1866 and was appointed portepeef ensign on October 13 . On July 7, 1868, he was promoted to second lieutenant. He then took part in the Franco-German War in 1870/71 . From January 2 to October 1, 1873 he was adjutant of the 2nd Battalion. On October 18, 1875, he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant and on February 27, 1881 to captain . On March 22nd he became the commander of the Leib Company. The promotion to major took place on March 24, 1890 and from March 27, 1892 he was used as commander of the II battalion. He was then transferred to the Braunschweig Infantry Regiment No. 92 on April 18, 1896 , where he was assigned as a regular staff officer . Kanitz was on May 20 to lieutenant colonel and 25 November 1898. Colonel promoted. At the same time he was appointed regimental commander. On November 4, 1901 he was appointed commander of the 49th Infantry Brigade (1st Grand Ducal Hessian) and in this position he advanced to major general on April 22, 1902 . On February 24, 1905, he was put up for disposition with the character of Lieutenant General .

Kanitz then lived in Darmstadt .

Kanitz
family married Therese Countess von der Groeben (1859–1938). The three children Elisabeth (1889–1974), Albert Andreas Alexander (1891–1975) and Margarete (1898–1977) resulted from the marriage.
