Alexander von Puttkamer (musician)

Alexander Wilhelm Jesko von Puttkamer (born February 11, 1973 in Düsseldorf ) is a German tuba player .

Puttkamer comes from the old Pomeranian noble family von Puttkamer . His career began at an early stage as a multiple federal award winner with Jugend musiziert with the result of selected membership in the Federal Youth Orchestra , the Young German Philharmonic and the "Youth Orchestra of the European Union ".

After completing his studies with tuba player and conductor Walter Hilgers at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater , he became a member of the NDR Symphony Orchestra in Hamburg in 1996 . In 1998 he moved to the Bavarian State Orchestra in Munich. From 1999 to 2006 von Puttkamer played regularly in the orchestra of the Bayreuth Festival . From 2004 to 2007 he was tuba player in the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks .

He has been a member of the Berliner Philharmoniker since 2007 , where he acts as principal tuba player. At the same time, he is a sought-after representative of his field in top chamber music associations , such as German Brass , "HR-Brass", "Brass Partout", the Munich Brass Quintet, Vienna-Berlin Brass Quintet, the brass quintet of the Berlin Philharmonic and the Ensemble Modern . He taught a master class at the Vienna Conservatory in 2012 and at Carnegie Hall in New York in 2013 .
