Philipp Ernst Alexander von der Schulenburg-Emden , since 1798 Count von der Schulenburg-Emden (born January 27, 1762 in Bremervörde , † October 17, 1820 in Emden ) was a large German landowner.

family

Alexander was the son of Major General Alexander Jakob von der Schulenburg (1710–1775) and his wife Ehrengard Sophie, born von der Schulenburg (1737–1786). He was the brother of the Member of Parliament, Count August Karl Jakob von der Schulenburg- Altenhausen .

Schulenburg-Emden, who was of Protestant faith, married Ernestine Friederike Karoline von Alvensleben from the Eichenbarleben house (1766–1856) in Eichenbarleben on July 31, 1789 , with whom he had several children:

Eduard was a member of the Provincial Parliament of the Province of Saxony and from 1854 to 1871 a member of the Prussian manor house. The grandson Ernst von der Schulenburg-Emden (1832–1905) also belonged to the Prussian mansion from 1894 to 1905. Another grandson, Hermann von der Schulenburg (1829–1865), first became a Prussian officer and then a Capuchin priest .

Life

Schulenburg-Emden did military training at the Ecole Militaire in Berlin and became a cornet in the cuirassier regiment "von Ihlow" of the Prussian army in Salzwedel. He took part in the occupation of the Netherlands in 1787. From 1787 he was lord of Emden in the Neuhaldensleben district . Together with his two brothers August and Leopold he was on July 6, 1798 by King Friedrich Wilhelm III. raised to the Prussian count status . The Westphalian confirmation of the count's status took place on July 10, 1813. Schulenburg-Emden last suffered from deep melancholy and in 1820 shot himself.

Kingdom of Westphalia

Schulenburg-Emden was a deputy of the Magdeburg prelates and knights in the state deputation from the future Kingdom of Westphalia , which negotiated the Westphalian Constitution in August and September 1807 in Paris and Fontainebleau together with Count Heinrich von Blumenthal . From 1807 to 1812 he was prefect of the Elbe department . From June 2nd, 1808 to May 8th, 1812 he was a member of the imperial estates of the Kingdom of Westphalia for the (Elbe department) and the group of landowners . He was then a State Councilor in Kassel from May 8, 1812 to October 1813, and then returned to Emden. In January 1814 he was chairman of the Neuhaldensleben commission for the education and clothing of the Landwehr .
