Hermann Otto Ludwig Karl Graf von der Schulenburg (born December 4, 1794 in Emden , Province of Saxony , † March 12, 1860 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

family

Hermann was a son of Count Alexander von der Schulenburg (1762–1820) from the House of Emden and his wife Karoline, born von Alvensleben (1766–1856).

Military career

Schulenburg graduated from high school in Magdeburg , then studied initially at the University of Berlin and from mid-May 1813 on mining science at the University of Göttingen . After the wars of liberation began , on November 1, 1813, he joined the Prussian Army Guard Volunteer Cossack Squadron as a volunteer hunter and joined the 12th Reserve Infantry Regiment in 1814 . Schulenburg took part in the Battle of Paris , was promoted to secondary lieutenant in April 1815 and fought near Ligny . For his behavior at Waterloo he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class.

On August 2, 1815, he was transferred to the 2nd Guards Regiment on foot, and from October 3, 1815, he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant in the Adjutantur in Trier . By the end of March 1833 Schulenburg rose to major and adjutant at the General Command of the IV Army Corps . On March 30, 1839, he resigned as commander of the 2nd Battalion in the 31st Infantry Regiment and became a lieutenant colonel in this position in mid-March 1843 . With his promotion to colonel, he was commissioned on March 31, 1846, initially to lead the 2nd Infantry (King) Regiment, and Schulenburg was appointed regiment commander on October 5, 1846. When the March Revolution was suppressed in Berlin in 1848 , he was seriously wounded at the head of a storm column. After his recovery he was given command of the 9th Landwehr Brigade in Glogau at the beginning of December 1849 and advanced to major general in September 1851 . At the end of April 1852, his large unit was disbanded and established as the 18th Infantry Brigade . Schulenburg remained the brigade commander until December 8, 1854, and took his leave , conferring the character of lieutenant general with pension .

He was a knight of the Order of St. John .

family

Schulenburg had married Auguste von Eickstedt (1796-1860) on January 25, 1815 . The marriage resulted in seven children, including the Capuchin Ludovicus (1829-1865).
