Ludwig von Massow
Ludwig von Massow (born June 11, 1794 in Berlin , † September 2, 1859 in Potsdam ) was a landlord, Prussian civil servant and functionary at the royal court and, most recently, minister of the royal house .
Life
origin
Ludwig von Massow comes from the noble family von Massow . His father was Valentin von Massow (1752-1817), Chief Marshal of the Kingdom of Prussia; his mother Charlotte Auguste Joh. Luise (1766–1835), daughter of the Prussian State Minister Joachim Christian Graf von Blumenthal .
Massow was the landlord of Groß Möllen , Loist , Steinhöfel and from 1823 also owner of the Demnitz estate.
Career
In 1809 he joined the 1st Guards Regiment on foot in Potsdam and became an officer in 1811. Massow took part in the wars of liberation as a soldier . In 1818 he was appointed captain of the Landwehr .
From 1820 Massow was chamberlain at the Prussian court. In 1835 he became court marshal of the crown prince, later Friedrich Wilhelm IV. From 1837, Massow was director of the royal gardens and, from 1840, was also temporarily responsible for the royal casket. From 1843 Massow was a member of the State Council . During the revolution of 1848/49 he was a key member of the courtly conservative camarilla , which sought to influence the king in a counter-revolutionary sense.
In 1850 Massow became an employee of House Minister Wilhelm zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Hohenstein . After his departure on April 14, 1851, he was " interim head of the Ministerii of the Royal House ". Even after the death of Count Anton zu Stolberg-Wernigerode , he held " the temporary administration of the Ministry of the Royal House with the rights of a chief " from February 12, 1854 , before Massow officially held the office from 1856 to 1858. During this time he also had a seat and vote in the Prussian State Ministry . In addition, Massow was also chairman of the administrative committee of the royal horticultural institute in Schöneberg and Potsdam and of the royal state tree nursery in Potsdam.
In 1847 Massow was a member of the United State Parliament . In 1850 he belonged to the Volkshaus of the Erfurt Union Parliament and was also a member of the Provincial Parliament for the Province of Brandenburg .
family
In 1823 he married Hermine (1796–1846), daughter of Alexander von der Schulenburg-Emden and Caroline von Alvensleben. The couple have eight children, including:
- Valentin (1825–1868), Lieutenant Colonel ret. D. ⚭ Adelheid Marianne von der Asseburg , (* May 7, 1844)
- Anton (1831–1921), Prussian general of the infantry ⚭ 1860 Ida Sophie Luise Davide Melosine von Innhausen and Knyphausen (1828–1906)
- Konrad (1840–1910), administrative lawyer and social politician ⚭ Freiin Thusnelda von Reden (1845–1908)
- Wilhelm Ludwig Eduard Valentin (1834–1874), died of a wound in a battle near Kampong Garouw
After the death of his first wife, he married Auguste (1822–1904), daughter of Karl Frhr, in 1849 . von Canitz (1787–1850), Prussian general and foreign minister, and Auguste von Schmerfeld. The couple had two daughters.
The widow then married on September 22, 1868, the senior government councilor Ferdinand Stiehl (1812–1878).
