Alexandra Meyer (born July 25, 1984 in Winterthur ) is a Swiss artist and performer .

Career

Alexandra Meyer grew up in the Zürcher Weinland and Schaffhausen , works as a multimedia artist ( performance , video , object art , installation , photography ) and currently lives in Basel .

From 2008 to 2010 she took the preliminary course at the F + F School for Art and Media Design in Zurich and then, from 2010 to 2013, the Bachelor of Arts at the HGK Institut Kunst, Basel , where from 2017 to 2019 she completed a master’s degree with the Master of Fine Arts .

She works performatively, with material and corporeality, transformations and food, identities and images. The objects are often linked to a personal story and the artist herself is often used as a performer or protagonist. The artist, also trained as a nurse, deals in her work with elementary questions about physicality and the conditions of human life. "To do this, she sometimes develops humorous, poetic or painfully-drastic visual language and uses a wide variety of media such as video, installation, sculpture, performance or drawing." Lucia Angela Cavegn writes that her work is carried by «everyday comedy and everyday poetry», which the artist also communicates with «humor and ease».
