Alexandru Mățel (born October 17, 1989 in Constanța ) is a Romanian football player who has been under contract with the Romanian first division club CS Universitatea Craiova since September 2019 .

Career

Mățel came in 2006 for the first time in the squad of his home club Farul Constanța and played his first game in the Romanian top division on June 7, 2006. In the following season there was no further use. In the summer of 2007, the left the club for the second division FC Delta Dobrogea Tulcea . There he fought for a regular place and played with his team in the 2008/09 season for promotion to League 1 when Farul brought him back during the winter break. There, too, he was able to secure a place in the team, but had to relegate at the end of the season. In the House of Commons, he stayed with his club, but clearly missed the rise.

In the summer of 2010, the first division Astra Ploieşti Mățel took under contract. After 28 appearances in the 2010/11 season , he was out almost the entire 2011/12 season . He only returned to the team in August 2012. The 2013/14 season he was able to finish with his team as runner-up behind Steaua Bucharest . He then won his first title with the 2014 Cup . After he was no longer used in the first half of the 2014/15 season , he left the club during the winter break for Dinamo Zagreb in the Croatian 1st HNL .

National team

Mățel was first appointed in early September 2011 by Victor Pițurcă in the squad of the Romanian national team. On September 2, 2011, he came in the European Championship qualifier against Luxembourg for his first use. After another game against Belarus in early October, he was ignored for almost a year before returning with the start of World Cup qualification in September 2012.

At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in the Romanian squad . In the third and final game of the group stage against Albania, he made his only appearance from the start, after which the team was eliminated.
