Alexei Lwowitsch Rybnikow ( Russian Алексей Львович Рыбников ; born July 17, 1945 in Moscow ) is a Russian composer.

Life

When he was only eight years old, Rybnikov wrote compositions for piano and film music for a film version of The Thief of Baghdad . Since then he has written the music for over a hundred films and has also been involved in the script in individual cases .

In 1980 he composed the rock opera Juno and Avos (ru: Юнона и Авось ), a mixture of mysticism , rock and eroticism. The successful piece (hundreds of re-productions worldwide) themed the idea of the Russian explorer Nikolai Petrovich Resanov to build a trade bridge between Russia and America in the 19th century. It reflected the Russian longing for an opening to the west in the Soviet Union in the pre-glasnost era. The libretto came from the well-known poet Andrei Voznesensky . In his opera Rybnikov combined Slavic church chants with synthesizer sounds , rock, Russian folklore and Webber's musical hymns and achieved a resounding success with this work at the Lenin Komsomol Theater of the Soviet Youth Association.

In 2006 Rybnikov was president of the festival “The theater's heart is music” in Moscow (February 2–16, 2006) with 25 productions from Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Belarus in the genres of musicals , rock operas, operettas and musical theater for children.

Rybnikov composed his Sixth Symphony for the final concert of the third “Festival of the world's best symphony orchestras ” on June 12, 2008, especially for the national holiday “ Russian Day ”. The composer said: “My symphony is dedicated to the day of Russia. Russia has come a path full of tragedies, struggles and glorious victories over the past hundred years. That is why it is primarily important to me that the symphony touches people emotionally. ”The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung wrote:“ The 'United Russian Symphony Orchestra' with instrumentalists from thirty different parts of the country is playing the sixth symphony by Alexej Rybnikow, a bombastic opus in E major , which, in the musical idiom, lets light and darkness fight with each other. Broad string cantilenas are torn to pieces by the bangs of the drums and the howling of trombones, then outshone by the glimmer of hope from the celesta dabs and the flageolet carpets . Dutiful enthusiasm for the inevitable triumph in four sentences. In Moscow, music is once again serving the purpose of collective merging. "

Awards

For his work on the film Zvezda (2002), he received the Russian Guild of Film Critics' Golden Aries for best film music in 2002 and the Russian Nika Prize for best music in 2003 . In 2006 he was awarded the Order of Friendship , in 2010 the Order of Honor and in 2016 the Order of Merit for the Fatherland 4th class.
