Alfonso Mistrangelo

Alfonso Maria Cardinal Mistrangelo SchP (born April 26, 1852 in Savona , †  November 7, 1930 in Florence ) was Archbishop of Florence .

Life

Mistrangelo was born on May 17, 1859 received Confirmation . He entered the seminary of Savona and then became a member of the Piarist Order in Liguria on October 23, 1870 . He made his simple vows in 1871 and his perpetual vows in 1874 . On 13 May 1875 he was sub-deacon , the same year on July 18, Deacon . He was ordained a priest on March 17, 1877 . He taught at the Piarist School in Finalborgo , Carcare and Ovada . In 1880 he became principal of the local school.

On January 16, 1893 he was by Pope Leo XIII. appointed Bishop of Pontremoli . He was consecrated on May 11th of that year by Cardinal Lucido Parocchi , Archbishop Antonio Grasselli and Bishop Luigi Canestrari in San Pantaleone.

On June 19, 1899, he was appointed Archbishop of Florence and at the same time worked from 1900 to 1904 as the highest general of the Piarists. Pope Benedict XV took him on December 6, 1915 as a cardinal priest with the titular church Santa Maria degli Angeli in the college of cardinals . Cardinal Mistrangelo attended the 1922 conclave that Pope Pius XI. he chose. In 1930 he died at the age of 78 after gastric poisoning. His grave can be found in the Soffiano cemetery .
