Alfred Krause (General)
Alfred Krause (born April 28, 1930 in Dresden ; † November 19, 2001 ) was Lieutenant General of the National People's Army (NVA) of the German Democratic Republic .
Life
The son of a packer and driver completed an apprenticeship as an administrative clerk in Dresden after primary school from 1944 to 1947 and then worked in this profession for a year. In 1946 he joined the SED .
On September 13, 1948, he joined the German People's Police and was then a police officer in Dresden until 1950. At the same time he was a student at the Torgau People's Police School . He then became deputy commander for political work at the Berlin-Treptow political school and then from 1953 to 1957 head of the cadre department of the political school. From 1957 to 1962 he was an officer auditor at the NVA's College for Officers, from 1959 at the “ Friedrich Engels ” military academy in Dresden, where he graduated with a degree in military science.
After serving as Deputy Commander for Political Work of the Mot. Rifle Regiment 7 " Max Roscher " in Marienberg from 1962 to 1964 he was commander of this unit until 1970. After that he studied from 1970 to 1972 at the General Staff Academy of the USSR . After his return he became deputy commanding officer for 11th Mot. Rifle Division in Halle (Saale) and was from November 1, 1974 to August 31, 1977 himself commander of this unit with the rank of colonel . He was then appointed Deputy Chief and Chief of Staff of Military District III in Leipzig and on October 7, 1977 Major General.
In 1980 he was appointed head of the inspection administration in the Ministry of National Defense (MfNV). In October 1982 he was appointed as the successor to Lieutenant General Theo Gregori as head of the intelligence administration in the MfNV and thus the military intelligence service. As such, he was promoted to lieutenant general on March 1, 1986 . After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, he was relieved of this task, but most recently headed the information center of the Ministry of National Defense and the Ministry of Disarmament and Defense (MfAV). With the Enlightenment Administration, the GDR's National People's Army maintained its own espionage organization for 37 years, which quietly disbanded under Krause after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Immediately before the reunification of Germany , he was released on September 30, 1990.
