Alfred "Ala" Kuhnke (* March 6, 1936 ; † August 20, 2014 ) was a German ice hockey goalkeeper .

Career

As a student of Heinz Laufer, the Berlin Kuhnke was recruited for the democratic sports movement and was already considered a talented but inexperienced goalkeeper in his early years, since 1954 he was eligible to play for the first team of SC Einheit Berlin . In 1956 and 1957 the team won the national runner-up , in the summer of 1959 Kuhnke left his home club. After a season at TSC Oberschöneweide , Kuhnke moved to city rivals SC Dynamo Berlin in 1960 and won the runner-up behind Dynamo Weißwasser four times in a row . Against regular goalkeeper Eberhard GrimmHowever, he could not prevail and played only 14 of a possible 54 point games in three years. After another season without league use, Kuhnke returned to Berlin TSC , the successor club of TSC Oberschöneweide, in the summer of 1964 . At the beginning of 1966, the goalkeeper was still part of the team's backing, then he worked as a trainer in the youth division of the Berlin TSC.

After initially mixed performances in the league , Kuhnke was finally traded in the spring of 1955 as a candidate for the GDR national team . In October 1955, the goalkeeper won with a B-substitution of young players 5: 4 against the GDR selection, which was preparing for the Olympic Games . On March 9, 1956, a few days after his 20th birthday, Kuhnke came spontaneously to the " replacement world championship " in the game against Norway (5-7) for the Belgian national team after their goalkeeper fell ill. The Berliner also played at least three international matches for the GDR national team, including against Norway in December 1957.

At the end of 1957, Kuhnke married. He died in August 2014 at the age of 78 and was taken to the St. Andreas-St. Markus is buried in Alt-Hohenschönhausen .
