Alfred R. Stevenson

Alfred R. Stevenson. (Born September 20, 1973 in Obervellach , bourgeois Stefan Rothschopf ) is an Austrian composer and conductor . The focus of his work is on the symphonic wind orchestra, but he also gained fame through his compositions and arrangements for brass ensemble .

Career

From childhood on, Stevenson was inspired by music and received trumpet lessons from Christoph Vierbauch and later trombone lessons from Peter Vierbach. After moving to Rupert Hörmanseder at the Carinthian State Conservatory in Klagenfurt and graduating from the HTL Mössingerstraße , he joined the Carinthian Military Music as a bass trombonist in 1993. He held this position until 2010. During this time he studied wind orchestra conducting at the Carinthian State Conservatory in Klagenfurt - which he graduated with honors in 1995 - and composition with Karl Safaric, Thomas Doss and Franz Kühnel. Masterclasses led him to H. Robert Reynolds, Maurice Hamers , Jan Cober , Dennis Johnson, Felix Hauswirth , Jan van der Roost and Karolos Trikolidis.

In 1995, Stevenson was appointed conductor of the Rangersdorf Trachtenkapelle and worked as a guest conductor with amateur orchestras, including the Feldkirchen Stadtkapelle, the Knauf AMF Heradesign Ferndorf factory chapel, the Carinthian mountain rifle chapel, the Spittal an der Drau city band and the Klagenfurt city band.

In 2004 he took 3rd place in the composition competition of the Austrian Brass Band Association with his Overture to Avalon .

In 2014, his work Fragments was chosen as a compulsory piece at the 9th Austrian brass music competition.

His works have been published by Molenaar Edition, Tirol Musikverlag, Adler Musikverlag and Seeber-Film . He also gained fame through his compositions and arrangements for brass ensemble. So was z. B. his Carinthian Music Academy (CMA) fanfare performed by the Brass of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra (RCO Brass) and the European Brass Ensemble.
