Alfred von Auerswald (born October 16, 1797 in Königsberg i. Pr. , † July 3, 1870 in Berlin ) was a German general landscape director and interior minister in Prussia.

Life

origin

He came from the old nobility in the margraviate of Meissen . The parent company of the same name Auerswalde is today a district of Lichtenau (Saxony) , which was first mentioned in a document in 1263. He was the son of Hans Jakob von Auerswald (1757-1833), from 1797 chamber president and since 1802 Oberpräsident in Königsberg . His mother was Countess Albertine zu Dohna-Lauck (1760–1831). His older brothers were the Royal Prussian Major General Hans Adolf Erdmann von Auerswald (1792–1848) and the Prussian Prime Minister Rudolf von Auerswald (1795–1866).

Career

Auerswald first attended high school in Königsberg and then took part in the Wars of Liberation in 1815 at the age of 18 . During his subsequent studies at the Albertus University in Königsberg , he was the co-founder of the old Königsberg fraternity .

From 1830 to 1844 he was district administrator of the Rosenberg i. Western pr. , from 1845 to 1853 general landscape director of the province of Prussia . In 1846 he was a member of the Prussian General Synod and from March to June 1848 Prussian Minister of the Interior . After that he was re-elected general landscape director, but not confirmed by the king.

From 1837 Auerswald was a member of the Provincial Parliament of the Province of Prussia , in 1847 a member of the United State Parliament and in 1848 a member of the Prussian National Assembly . From 1849 to 1852 he was a member of the Second Chamber (fraction Auerswald-Schwerin) and in 1849 its first vice-president. In 1850 he was a member of the Erfurt Volkshaus and from 1854 to 1855 again a member of the Second Chamber as a member of the Center . In the years 1859 to 1861 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives (left parliamentary group) and from 1862 to 1863 ( Georg Freiherr von Vincke parliamentary group ) and 1867 to 1870 (constitutional parliamentary group).

Alfred von Auerswald died in Berlin in 1870 at the age of 72 and was buried in the Old St. Matthew Cemetery in Schöneberg . The grave has not been preserved.

family

He married Franziska Natalie Frey from Königsberg, a daughter of Johann Gottfried Frey (1762–1831). The couple had two daughters including Lydia (* October 18, 1827, † August 15, 1898). She married Heinrich Eduard Fabian Hermann zu Dohna-Schlobitten (* June 21, 1821, † February 16, 1859) a son of Alexander Fabian zu Dohna-Schlobitten .
