Life
origin
Alexander Fabian came from a noble noble family documented since 1127 , which had been in the possession of the Imperial Castle Donin since 1144 (called Dohna since the 15th century). He belonged to the 2nd branch ( Finck von Finckenstein ) of the Dohna-Schlobitten line (princely branch) and was the eighth child of the Lord on Schlobitten , Pröstelwitz and Finckenstein Friedrich Alexander zu Dohna-Schlobitten (1741-1810), Supreme Marshal of the Kingdom of Prussia , Knight of the Order of the Black Eagle and the Order of Pour le Mérite, and the Caroline Countess Finck von Finckenstein (1746-1825).
Military career
As a younger son from a noble family, he, like many of his peers, initially chose the military career. He became an infantryman in the "Schöning" regiment and was second lieutenant when the war against France broke out in 1806 . Dohna-Schlobitten took part in the battles of the corps under the leadership of Lieutenant General Anton Wilhelm von L'Estocq in East Prussia at the end of 1806 / beginning of 1807 and stood out during the nightly Prussian attack on Soldau on Christmas Day 1806 that his commander L 'Estocq and others proposed to the king that he be awarded the order Pour le Mérite. In L'Estocq's report of February 22nd, 1807 he asked “ ... finally the captain of G. and the lieutenant Count von Dohna, employed à la suite , who both excelled in the nightly attack on Soldau on December 25th by they have led attack columns and volunteers with great insight and courage to award the plm medal. Both were shot through the arm ... ”() With the highest cabinet order of February 27, 1807, the king approved the proposed award of the medal. " ... My dear L'Estocq [...] I also give the Colonel von L. [...] the VO, as well as the Captain of G. and Lieutenant Count Dohna because of the affair at Soldau, where both have excelled ... " ( )
After the war Dohna continued to serve and received his farewell as a lieutenant colonel . After his departure, he managed the Finckenstein estate in East Prussia, which he had acquired in 1831, as Fideikommissherr . He died on August 26, 1850 in Finckenstein.
