Pseudonyms

The poet is best known for the code name of her internet diary izubr . In Russian, this word describes a subspecies of the red deer ( Cervus elaphus xanthopygus ). This pseudonym was chosen rather by chance: As a lyceist, Kudrjaschewa wrote a schoolwork on the legends of the Nordic peoples in which this animal figured. This weblog was created in 2003 for Kudrjaschewa by her friend (the blogger squirrel_ ), who suggested this word as a blog name.

The pseudonym Isja Rajder (Изя Райдер) is also used in the same weblog . Outwardly it looks like a Jewish male name (first name Isja as a diminutive of Israel or Isidore and the last name Rajder ). Its creation has not been publicly declared. It can be assumed that the title of the US road movie Easy Rider from 1969 was ironically rethought. Possibly this is due to the fact that the poet likes to travel: On the front page of the weblog figured among her interests “tear yourself away and leave” (“срываться и уезжать”). It should also be noted that the interest in “ language game ” (“языковая игра”) is also mentioned.

Alja Kudrjaschewa also has the other weblog xelbot , which is basically not dedicated to poetry, but to the poet's everyday life. The word xelbot originates from the text entry of the Russian word чудище (“miracle animal ”) with a keyboard with Russian keyboard layout without a choice of characters. This pseudonym is rarely used for the original poetic works. Nevertheless, Kudryasheva has also published some poems on this blog.

General characteristics of the lyric

Topics, motifs and worldview

Alja Kudrjaschewa has been writing the poems since she was a child, consciously for 11 years. The main themes and motifs of Kudryasheva's poetry are diverse. First and foremost, the poet describes the experience of growing up, the relationships of the lyrical self with friends and loved ones. In love poetry , the I-form predominates , the you-form is less common .

The religious motifs are present in Kudrjaschewa's poetry with characters from the Old and New Testaments . Several poems are dedicated to nature and the change of seasons. One of the important motifs is the world of things, which is almost always brought to life. The theme of artistic creation and the poet's relationship to words is touched upon. There are a few poems that were created as the poet's answer to the events of country life (the poem “Prayer”, which was written in Moscow after the terrorist attacks on March 29, 2010 ). In many of Kudrjaschewa's writings (regardless of the subject matter) there are shapes and characteristics of the hometown of Saint Petersburg ; it is this background that gives her writings a specific “ couleur locale ”.

Because of her Jewish origin on her mother's side, Alja Kudrjaschewa is inclined to identify as a Jew. This fact evidently caused the poet to be interested in Jewish culture . It is partly reflected in her literary work: in 2008 she published her translation of Itzik Manger's ballad "Einsam" from Yiddish .

In the early poems of Alja Kudrjaschewa, the actual literary plot rarely appears. Since the end of the 2000s, the proportion of narrative poems has increased. The inner dramaturgy of the poems is stretched and worked out, a number of newer pieces are given a ballad form . Sometimes the poems are very long and appear more like little poemes . Attempts have also been made to set some poems to music. The peculiarities of these songs (the form, the tropical system, the worldview of the lyrical self) are in accordance with the tradition of Russian singer-songwriters and differ from that of rock or rap songs.

Most of Kudrjaschewa's works were titled in the online publications. These titles were left out in the later book edition. That is why today the relevant poems are mainly known and quoted after the first verse.

The view of the world presented in the young poet's essays is varied and changeable. Quite a few poems are very happy and "rich in light". In addition, many of the poet's essays are inspired by a feeling of uncomfortability. However, this sensation is not caused by the concrete circumstances of the individual life course; it is more of an existential and metaphysical character. The urge to overcome this uncomfortable feeling is an essential feature of Kudryasheva's poetry.

The poetic technique

Alja Kudrjaschewa's poetic technique is very diverse and rich in artifacts. Her verses are quite plastic and elaborate; the author likes to use u. a. the combinations of different feet within a poem, the enjambement , the acrostic , etc. Almost without exception, she prefers rhyming verses. Many poems, however, are written without any division; the poet has it u. a. justified by the fact that these works are also considered entries in their weblog. Very long verses appear in individual poems, such as in the works of Ogden Nash .

By and large, the young author follows the classic line of Russian poetry. According to the poet's own confession, her favorite authors include the poets of the Russian Silver Age as well as David Ssamojlow , Robert Roschdestvensky and Joseph Brodsky . Most of Kudrjaschewa's more recent works are characterized by a high poetic culture. Usually they are tasteful and very correct from a grammatical point of view. The lexical experiments are generally alien to her; the use of modern youthful argot is very little.

Reception and evaluation

The indicated peculiarities of poetics have made Alja Kudrjaschewa's poetry quite attractive. In early 2011, her main blog, izubr, had around 13,000 friends. Unfortunately, it is difficult to analyze all of this number of readers. A review of the blogs of the readers who post their correspondence on Kudryasheva's blog most regularly reveals the following. The readers come from Russia as well as from all important countries of the Russian-speaking diaspora abroad (the CIS countries , Germany , Israel , Canada , USA ). The upper class and university students predominate. In addition, however, an older group of readers (which mostly includes the well-educated people) can be found. The young part of the audience primarily appreciates the warmth, the emotional content of Kudryasheva's works, the absence of falsehood and cynicism. The older group of readers also appreciates the poet's poetic technique.

The author uses the weblog as a means of communication with the audience as well as the regular poetic performances that are organized in Saint Petersburg, Moscow and abroad (including in Israel, Ukraine and Germany).

Kudryasheva's works were perceived differently in professional circles. Several respected men of the pen and critics (including Dmitry Bykov ) have valued her poems very highly. They have also received several awards in literary competitions (see below). In addition, however, several aspects of Kudryasheva's poetry were criticized. It was alleged that her essays had flown through the poetic characters of the other authors (including Marina Tsvetaeva , Vera Pavlova and Vera Poloskowa ). Even so, the perfection of Kudryasheva's poetic technique was also emphasized by these reviewers.

German motifs in Kudryasheva's poetry

Alja Kudrjaschewa toured Germany several times. She visited u. a. Hamburg , Nuremberg and Düsseldorf . Several impressions of the acquaintance with the country and its culture are also reflected in their poetry. Among other things, it concerns the poem «Вторая песенка» («The second song», 2010). The lyrically reinterpreted figures of Russia emerge as the background for the memories of Germany. The lyrical ego regards love for Germany as a “young love” that is “obtrusive, pimply and ashen”.

In the poem “check out”, written in 2011, the experiences of returning home after visiting Germany are presented. Apart from the general heart-oppressive mood of this work, one of the most important peculiarities of the work is the heightened sensation of the German and Russian languages ("the last sweetness of foreign languages thaws on the tongue", "the thorny cyrillic in the sky scratches the deprived larynx").

The poem "немецкая колыбельная" ("German Lullaby ", 2011) was written by Alja Kudrjaschewa in Germany. Its central figure is the image of the general sleep of people, nature and things, which merges with the clear love motif. Here, too, the rethought shapes and characteristics of the country can be found. The " Nibelungen who sleep under the Rhine ", an old foggy town (probably Düsseldorf), "where every house says Anno that is older than 1500" is mentioned. The general mood of the poem is very delicate and at the same time characterized by mild humor .
