Aliuska López

Aliuska López ( Aliuska Yanira López Pedroso ; born August 29, 1969 in Havana ) is a former Spanish hurdler of Cuban origin, whose special route was the 100-meter distance .

In 1986 she became vice junior world champion. The following year, she was seventh over 60 meter hurdles at the World Indoor Championships in Indianapolis . In the summer she won silver at the Universiade , bronze at the Pan American Games in Indianapolis and reached the semi-finals at the World Championships in Rome . In 1988 she became junior world champion.

In 1991 she won bronze in the 60 meter hurdles at the World Indoor Championships in Seville . A gold medal at the Pan American Games in Havana was followed by seventh place at the World Championships in Tokyo . In 1992 she was sixth at the Olympic Games in Barcelona , in 1993 fifth over 60 meter hurdles at the World Indoor Championships in Toronto and fourth at the World Championships in Stuttgart .

In 1995 she won the title at the World Indoor Championships in Barcelona over 60 meter hurdles and at the Pan American Games in Mar del Plata . At the 1995 World Championships in Gothenburg , however, she was eliminated in the semifinals as well as at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta .

In 1997 she failed at the World Championships in Athens in the preliminary stages. In 1999 she defended her title at the Pan American Games in Winnipeg and reached the semi-finals at the World Championships in Seville . At the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney she was fifth.

In 1990 and 1993 she won gold at the Central American and Caribbean Games, in 1997 she was Central America and Caribbean champion. She has been the Cuban champion eleven times (1986–1989, 1993–1997, 1999, 2000). In the 4-by-100-meter relay , she won silver twice with the Cuban team at the Pan American Games (1987, 1995) and twice gold at the Central American and Caribbean Games (1990, 1993). At the World Championships she came seventh (1987) and twice (1991, 1993) with the Cuban quartet, at the Olympic Games the Cuban relay did not reach the final in 1992 and was eliminated in the preliminary run in 1996.

From 2003 it started for Spain. In the same year she became Spanish champion. In 2004, as in 1992 for Cuba, she became the Ibero-American champion. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and at the European Championships in Gothenburg in 2006 , she was eliminated in the preliminary stages.

Aliuska López is 1.71 m tall and weighs 62 kg. Her cousin is the long jumper Iván Pedroso .
