Alizaringelb R is a yellow azo dye which can be produced from salicylic acid and diazotized 4-nitroaniline via the azo coupling .

In addition to methyl red , methyl orange and other azo dyes and Alizarin Yellow R is a color indicator at pH - titration used. Starting from a low pH value, the color changes from light yellow to orange-red in the range from 10.0 to 12.0.

Despite its name, Alizarin Yellow R is not one of the alizarin dyes or alizarin derivatives that are derived from anthraquinone .
