occupation

The Queen's Men is a war comedy from the year 2001 directed by Stefan Ruzowitzky . Cast includes Matt LeBlanc and Eddie Izzard .

action

During the Second World War, the British Army sent a small group of four men to a German factory in Berlin that made Enigma cipher machines. The mission is designed to fail; a ruse to pretend the British didn't have an Enigma yet. However, the executing team is not informed of this.

The team is made up of the American O'Rourke (LeBlanc), travesty artist Tony Parker (Izzard), the genius Johnno (David Birkin) and the reluctant Archie (Cosmo). The factory staff is made up entirely of women, so the team members have to dress up as women.

Dropped off in the wrong area, the team must first regain their bearings. With the help of Romy, a sympathizer, they find a detour to the factory. In the end, contrary to the expectations of the British army, they succeed in stealing an Enigma. When they find out the actual mission goal shortly before their return to England, Archie wants to sacrifice himself for the others and stay in Germany alone with the Enigma. Ultimately, however, anyone can return to England, including Romy.

criticism

Lexicon of international film : An adventure and war film that focuses on turbulence, speed and action, which acts as a mixture of travesty show and military clothes of the naive and old-fashioned kind and only develops ironic humor at the beginning. The director's clearly recognizable talent for an emphatically casual narrative style is increasingly being buried under the inadequacies of the staging and the banality of the plot.

Others

The film currently holds the record for American films with the lowest return on investment. The budget was about $ 15 million, but the film grossed only $ 22,723 in the US - a return of -99.92%.
