Allan Robert Border AO (born July 27, 1955 in Sydney ) is a retired Australian cricketer . From 1983 to 1993 he was the captain of the Australian national cricket team in 93 Tests . He was named one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1982.
Border is one of the 8 batsmen who have achieved more than 10,000 test runs (points) in their career. In total, he took part in 156 tests for the Australian team . For a while he held the record for most tests completed. This record has since been beaten by Steve Waugh and Sachin Tendulkar . With 11,174 runs, he held the world record for the most test runs achieved. This was broken in 2005 by Brian Lara . Under Border's leadership, the Australian cricket team developed its dominant role in cricket, which it held until around 2008/2009. Under his leadership, it won the Cricket World Cup in 1987 . He also took part in three other cricket world championships ( 1979 , 1983 and 1992 ). Border completed a total of 273 one-day international matches, in which he scored 6524 runs. He was the first ever player to complete 200 one-day internationals.
In the movie Love Birds - duck good, all good! from 2011 he is a cricket commentator.
Allan Border was named Officer of the Order of Australia in 1989. In January 1999 he was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame. In his honor, the Allan Border Medal has been awarded to outstanding Australian cricketers since 2000.
