reception

Greg Prato wrote for Allmusic that few hair metal bands of the 1980s were "known to actually master their respective instruments". A group that was actually able to "put their" pretty boy "image" with skill "was Europe. Almost Unplugged show the group with a string quartet with which they would perform some rock classics together with their own material and the "still bombastic" The Final Countdown . Surprisingly, the power ballad Carrie is missing , from which one can assume that “it would have fitted well into the instrumental framework”. Almost Unplugged is "further proof that Europe are kings of arena rock" - at least in Europe.
