Aloys Greither

Aloys Greither (born December 29, 1913 in Mittelberg , Vorarlberg , Austria-Hungary , † July 20, 1986 ) was a German dermatologist .

Life

Aloys Greither was baptized as Alois Greither. He later wrote his first name with y , based on Aloysius . From April 15, 1926, he attended grammar school in Dillingen an der Donau , where he passed the final examination in March 1933 .

During the time of National Socialism Greither was not a member of the NSDAP and was otherwise not close to National Socialism . From the summer of 1933 he studied philosophy ( psychology , education , art history , musicology ) and from the winter semester 1934/35 parallel to this, medicine at the universities of Munich , Freiburg im Breisgau , Tübingen and again in Munich. In 1936 he received his doctorate in Munich under Aloys Fischer , who was harassed because of his Jewish wife, to become Dr. phil. The subject of the dissertation was the suicide of young people, u. a. from the perspective of psychoanalysis defamed as Jewish by the National Socialists . The book was banned. In 1940 Greither finished his medical studies in Munich with the dissertation on the causes of premature births as a Dr. med. During the Second World War he was used as a military doctor .

From May 1945 Greither worked with Karl Heinrich Bauer at the surgical clinic at Heidelberg University Hospital . A year later he moved to the Dermatology Clinic at Walther Schönfeld , where he completed his dermatological training and, in 1951, qualified as a professor for dermatology and venereology and became a senior physician in the outpatient department . After teaching, he was appointed adjunct professor and first senior physician in 1957 .

For a short time, on January 1, 1962, he took over the management of the skin clinic at the Aachen City Hospital , followed by Walter Gahlen . From August 1, 1962, he became a full professor and director of the Dermatology Clinic at the Düsseldorf University Hospital, succeeding Hans Theodor Schreus .

In addition to his dermatological scientific work, especially on keratotic genodermatoses, he also wrote a large number of music and art history works. According to him, which was Keratodermia palmoplantaris transgrediens et Progrediens that Greither Syndrome , named.
