Alquin are a Dutch rock band from the 1970s that were re-formed at the beginning of the 21st century .
history
Emerging from the Threshold Fear , the group initially played in the footsteps of Pink Floyd and Roxy Music . Elements of rock, classical and jazz were processed. After successful live performances, Alquin - named after the medieval scholar - was signed by Polydor .
A first LP was released in 1972 , after the second in the following year, the group was named "Trendsetter of the Year" in the Netherlands . Appearances in the Liverpool Cavern and London Marquee Club followed. Tours in Germany, England (with Golden Earring ) and France (as opening act for The Who ) followed. The third LP was aimed specifically at the international market.
With the inclusion of Michel van Dijk, who came from groups like Brainbox and Ekseption , as lead singer, the style of the band became significantly more rock. The album Nobody can wait forever became a commercial success, which however could not cover up breaks within the band. After a tour in the Netherlands and the accompanying double LP, Alquin disbanded.
In 1995 there was a Reunion concert in Delft , where most of the founding members are from. After a subsequent tour, the group stayed together and recorded new material.
The band stayed together until 2012, after which there was a break when van Dijk and Bakker released a joint album as the Lone Project .
