The Alster is an orographic left or northern tributary of the Diemel in North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse, almost 7.2 km long . It runs in the districts of the towns of Borgentreich in East Westphalia and Liebenau in North Hesse .

Course and catchment area

The Alster rises in the East Westphalian district of Höxter in the Teutoburg Forest / Eggegebirge Nature Park in the Warburg Börde . Its source is in the village of Bühne , an eastern district of Borgentreich . It flows a little north-northeast of the Alsterhalle at around 233  m above sea level. NN located pond in which there is a quite large island ( 233.9  m above sea level ). About 200 m downstream, a brook, also called the Alster , flows into Bühne , around 1.9 km long, which is north-northeast of the village in the parcel Auf dem Lammert at about 261  m above sea level. NN  ( ) arises.

Initially, the Alster flows southeast out of the village of Bühne and passes a sewage treatment plant and four fish ponds. Below where the stream turns to the south are the Höppermühle , Lutzenmühle and Bessenmühle . Between the last two water mills mentioned , she passes the Borgentreich village of Muddenhagen, a little to the east of her . Further south, the Alster forms the border with the northern Hessian district of Kassel over a length of about 2.5  kilometers . At the same time, it runs along the nature park boundary, and there it passes a limestone quarry .

After final exit of the nature park Teutoburg Forest / Egge reached the now flowing in Northern Hesse Alster after passing the chalk mill and a new mill which to Liebenau belonging Lamerden where it the fairytale land crossed. After flowing through the village it empties at about 139  m above sea level. NN into the Weser tributary Diemel coming from the southwest there .

The catchment area of the Alster with a few rivulets as tributaries is 16.116 km² in size.
