Alt Herzberg is a residential area of the city of Herzberg (Elster) in the district of Elbe-Elster in Brandenburg . The place is located directly on the Black Elster .

history

In the second half of the 12th century, a merchant settlement with a Nikolaikirche was built on the spot where an old, important long-distance trade route crossed the Schwarze Elster, which later changed to the Marienpatrozinium. At this crossing, the Counts of Brehna built a castle around 1184, the location of which has not yet been found. Here they also founded a mint that is attested to 1254. The town of Herzberg developed from the merchant settlement at the end of the 12th century as a simple complex on the west-east long-distance trade route with market expansion. The place was known between 1346 and 1495 under the names Aldenherczberg, Alden-Herczenberg and Antiqua Herzberg. In 1474 Altherzberg was owned by the Kune brothers and the von der Dahme family. A free yard and a mill belonged to the place . In 1533 the Kunes sold their Altherzberger property to the council of the city of Herzberg. During the Thirty Years War the place was completely destroyed by Swedish troops. With the settlement of a machine factory at the beginning of the 19th century, the development of an industrial area began east of the town. Other companies settled there until the middle of the 20th century. Among other things, a plant for the production of animal feed was built, the silo towers of which dominate the cityscape in the east of Herzberg. In 1938 Altherzberg was incorporated into the city of Herzberg (Elster).
