Friedrichsluga is an inhabited part of the municipality of the city of Herzberg (Elster) in the district of Elbe-Elster in Brandenburg . The place is located directly on the Schwarzen Elster and the B 101 .

Place name

The name Luga in the place name indicates a Slavic settlement. Lug means swamp in Slavic among other things. After colonists immigrated to the area in the 12th century, they put the syllable Frieder (Friedrich) in front of the place name when settling the place, probably after their leader.

history

Friedrichsluga in the Electoral Saxon Office of Liebenwerda on a map by Peter Schenk 1753

Coppe von der Dahme and Kuntz Siete bought the place from Elector Wenzel in 1379 . Von der Dahme and his cousins Heinrich, Jahn and Bartholomäus were enfeoffed with the interest for the services of the place in 1398. The family was named as the recipient of this interest in 1422. In 1474, the then mayor of Herzberg, Paul Kalo, owned the village. He sold the place in 1484 to Peter Otte from Herzberg. From 1503 the then Neudeck manor owner Luthold von Brandenstein acquired the village. In 1548 Christoph von Brandenstein received the fiefdom of Friedrichsluga from Elector Moritz von Sachsen . He was followed by his son Siegmund von Brandenstein, who died in 1579. He left his inheritance to his sons Heinrich and Hans. Heinrich von Brandenstein sold the place to Friedrich von Schleinitz in 1615.

During the Thirty Years War , the place was devastated in 1631 by the troops of Colonel Götz. After the death of Friedrich von Schleinitz, his property went to Hans Georg and Dietrich von Schleinitz. In 1687, Georg von Schleinitz sold Friedrichsluga to Johann Patow for 2000 guilders. After his death in 1705 Johann Friedrich Patow was enfeoffed with the place. He was raised to the nobility in 1733 and died on September 17, 1755. On September 16, 1763, his only son, Bernhard Friedrich von Patow, sold his property to Friedrich Hartmann von Landwüst for 20,000 thalers. This went bankrupt, so that in 1771 the royal Prussian major Gottlob August von Trebra auctioned the property for 13,000 thalers. After his death on April 20, 1806, his son Moritz August sold the property to Heinrich von Blumenthal in 1812 . Blumenthal died on November 7, 1830 on Neudeck . Friedrichsluga remained in the possession of the von Blumenthal family until 1842 and was auctioned off on July 29, 1842 for 36,000 thalers to Christian Kurt Sahland from Schlieben . After the separation and the resulting amalgamation of areas, a new Vorwerk was created in the northwest of the village , which was managed by a relative of the Sahland family.

As part of the National Socialist Germanization of Sorbian place names, the district administrator of the Schweinitz district had applied in 1937 with the consent of the municipality to rename Friedrichsluga to “Friedrichshain” and thus to erase the Sorbian part of the name. Unlike in other regions , however, the renaming failed here due to the rejection of the responsible district president.

Until 1816 the village belonged to the Electoral Saxon Office Liebenwerda and with its dissolution it was subordinated to the district of Schweinitz . Friedrichsluga was incorporated into the city of Herzberg (Elster) on January 1, 1974.

landscape

The approximately 110 hectare large nature reserve Schwarze Elster and Riecke is located in the immediate vicinity of the place on the left side of the Black Elster. These are parts of the former course of the river before it was straightened . Rare pond and bank plants as well as the Elbe beaver (C. f. Albicus Matschie) find an optimal habitat here.

Culture and sights

The village church, an inn and a signpost for Friedrichsluga are listed in the Brandenburg State Monuments List.

church

The church building now in existence replaces a former half-timbered church. The previous building was erected in 1716.

The church in Friedrichsluga is a neo-Gothic brick building with a west-facing tower. The foundation stone was laid on May 9, 1883 by the then superintendent Raabe from Herzberg. It was built according to a design by master mason Michaelis under the supervision of master mason Euler from Falkenberg . On November 27, 1883, the inauguration took place by the general superintendent D. Schulze from Magdeburg .
