Location of Altenmünster (Stadtlauringen) in Bavaria

Altenmünster in Lower Franconia is a village with approx. 280 inhabitants in the Markt Stadtlauringen in the district of Schweinfurt .

history

The roots of Altenmünster go back to the seventh century. Before the 12th century, the village of Münster belonged to the sphere of influence of the Margraves of Schweinfurt . After the family died out, the village fell to the German Order of Knights . As a result, Altenmünster was ruled by village lords of the imperial knighthood of the Baunach canton . It is significant for the common church history of the place that Altenmünster was the pastor of Liborius Wagner , who was beatified in 1974, from 1626 to 1631 . After the peasants' liberation in 1806, Altenmünster was subordinated to the patrimonial court of the Truchsesse von Wetzhausen zu Oberlauringen in 1819 the Hofheim district court and in 1900 the Hofheim district office. In the post-war period Altenmünster was an independent municipality, to which Mühlenhöfe and the hamlet of Reinhardshausen belonged. On July 1, 1972, Altenmünster came to the Schweinfurt district from the Hofheim district in Lower Franconia as a result of the district reform. In the course of the municipal reform, Altenmünster was merged on May 1, 1978 with other previously independent municipalities to form Markt Stadtlauringen. The development of Altenmünster in the second half of the 20th century was shaped by the structural change away from the rural village: the farms in the Altdorf were increasingly only operated as a sideline - or no longer used for agriculture at all. Meanwhile, the area around Fuchsstädter Strasse has grown steadily up to the present day. The village fountain was redesigned in 2005 in order to emphasize a village focus in the Altdorf. In 2005 there was also an interior renovation on the ground floor of the old school , which is used for gatherings and celebrations of the village community.

geography

Altenmünster is located between Schweinfurt and Bad Königshofen - approx. 20 km north of the main valley near Schweinfurt in the southwestern foreland of the Hassberg mountain range between Stadtlauringen and Hofheim .

The Altenmünsterer Mühlbach , on the north bank of which the village is located, is fed by two springs in the district - one in the direction of Ballingshausen, the other in the direction of Ebertshausen. The brook flows below Altenmünster in the direction of Reinhardshausen, near which it flows into the Geißler coming from Wettringen , which in turn flows into the Lauer near Stadtlauringen . The Mühlbach used to run the now defunct "Dorfmühle" in Altenmünster and the so-called "Mittelmühle" and the "Kreismühle" on the way to Reinhardshausen. All three mills were grain mills. The remaining mills are now only homesteads. The hamlet of Reinhardshausen is in the district of Altenmünster.

The Franconian Marienweg runs through Altenmünster .

Churches

Christ Church

The Evangelical Lutheran Christ Church was inaugurated on July 11, 1901 by Pastor Haaß . The name Christ Church was given to it in 2001 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary. Assumption Day

The main burden of the construction costs of 410 guilders at that time was borne by the parish, 100 guilders were contributed by the patron saint, Neustadt am Main monastery . In 1607 a barn - also a half-timbered building - was built, as the pastors used to manage the parish themselves. The neighboring villages of Ballingshausen, Fuchsstadt and Sulzdorf belong to the parish of Altenmünster today as parish branches.

The Pilgerhof is a renovated farmstead: the former barn has been converted into a church, while the barn character has been largely preserved. In addition to the bishops of the diocese, Cardinal Joachim Meisner from Cologne also celebrated a mass in 1993 .
