history

The village master Philipp Albrecht Truchsess von Wetzhausen zu Sternberg introduced the Lutheran creed in Altenmünster in the 17th century. A church was initially not available. First the service in Wetzhausen had to be attended. The old school house was later used as a prayer room. The present church was not built until 1901. It did not have the name "Christuskirche" at the beginning, but only received it when it was 100 years old.

description

Christ Church in Altenmünster

The Christ Church is built in the neo-Romanesque style and is a hall church in type .

The entrance is on the west side. Above, between two angels, there is an inscription that is supposed to illustrate the omnipotence of God. A piece above the arched travée that frames the entrance door is a rose window . It should break through the wall for better lighting of the interior. However, it was locked during renovation work.

The interior of the church is also neo-Romanesque. The altar stands on a pedestal. It consists of a large altar plate on a sandstone block. It is supported by two round pillars with Corinthian capitals . The round pillars are connected to the sandstone block. In the background stands a new oak cross by the Stadtlauringer sculptor Josef Felkl. The sandstone baptismal font has the shape of a shortened column with a cube capital. The stone pulpit on the right west side of the nave is entered via a staircase. Your railing consists of round arches placed one on top of the other . On the pulpit you can see the symbols of the four evangelists in reliefs and below each a writing field. Renovations were carried out in the 1960s, which still shape the image of the church today.

The tower of the church on the north side has a square floor plan . Instead of a transept, it jumps out of the wall. The entrance to the tower, like the entrance to the church, consists of an iron-studded wooden door. It is also framed by an arched travée. But instead of a tympanum , the arch is filled with a pane of glass.
